Personal History and the beginnings of your CrossFit Adventure and what brought you to CrossFit Appleton –
At age 38, I was not liking the image of me in the mirror…Scrawny arms and a growing belly. CrossFit wasn’t anything that I had heard of at that time. So, I ended up going to Gold’s Gym and hired a trainer. I worked with him for about a year and lost around 20 lbs. At this point he and another trainer shared with me that they had recently started doing something called CrossFit and they thought I might enjoy it. I You Tubed it and thought they were crazy. But something about it kept drawing me back to those videos. The more I watched the more convinced I was to give it a try. One of the trainers was attending CrossFit Appleton and invited me to join him. That lead me to CFA.
Your first impression of CrossFit Appleton?
My first visit to CFA was when they were still in the box off of Westland Drive. It was tiny and narrow. But there were people standing at the door to get it. So I thought, this place must have something special to offer. Why else would all these folks be here. I was impressed by their friendliness and taking the time to show me how to do the night’s workout. Even though they didn’t know me, I felt just as encouraged and supported as the rest to do my best. The smallness of the place quickly became a non-issue.
What has been your biggest hurdle since starting ?
Going home. LOL!
What is your favorite aspect of CrossFit?
The people. I’ve made many great friends.
What are your current goals in CrossFit?
Enjoy the process. Keep my focus true to who I am. Help new members/visitors feel welcomed. Increase mobility (this old body thrives on that). Compete in a team competition.
What is something we don’t know about you?
I got my Masters in Education degree from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities in 1996.
